Over the years this recipe has been adapted to many taste buds, so this definitely not an authentic
dish to say the least. Sweet & Sour has realistically just been used as condiments in Asian cultures
throughout, the choice of ketchup just brings out the redness of the dish. So feel free to go wild and
have fun with the flavours. If you do make it feel free to tag me
INGREDIENTS
- 400g tofu
- 6-7 tbsp ketchup
- 4 tbsp soy sauce (I used a mix of light & dark)
- 4 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tsp light brown sugar (or any sugar)
- Salt + Pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 small ginger, minced
- medium onion
- bell peppers (capsicums)
- 4 tbsp corn flour
- Chinese 5 spice
METHOD
- In a bowl mix all your ingredients ups to make a sauce; soy sauce, ketchup, S+P, vinegar, sugar &
water. Add the cornflour as this will be the thicken agent - Coat your tofu in cornflour, this allows its to get crispy. I added some 5 spice for some extra
flavouring - Heat up a pan with some neutral oil, let the tofu fry for all sides to get golden brown
- Prepare all your vegetables and let this cook in a pan for 2-3 minutes
- Now mix your sauce, vegetables and tofu together, you want to thoroughly let this mix.
- Serve up with rice
